It has been predicted that the world is about to face a global oil shortage. This will inevitably mean a shortage of food, due to transport problems.
There have also been predictions that the current Middle East Crisis (July 13 2008), involving Iran and Israel, will cause the greatest catastrophe the planet has seen in recorded history.
It may well lead to a global recession as critical as the 1930's Recession.
It has also been predicted that there will be a disease pandemic, causing the death of at least one-third of the humans on the planet. Virulent strains of bacteria and viruses in "food" derived from animals are increasing. Just two common ones are CJD and "Bird Flu". CJD (see article) can lie dormant in the human body for up to twenty years! Humans have died from being infected by virulent strains which are capable of mutating in the human body and then being transmitted from human to human.
The environmental problems for Planet Earth has been caused by Humans destroying Her natural resources.
The major cause is the massive clearing of forests to graze animals which are then exploited to produce food. (See our article on the UN Report).
The natural solution is to remove the cause, and Planet Earth will do this either with or without human help.
To compound the problem, the use of "Animal Products" in the human diet is causing disease on an unprecedented scale. Cancer, particularly Bowel Cancer, and Diabetes are increasing in epidemic proportions. The gluttonous habits of humans in the rich countries are demanding massive food resources, which causes the raping and degrading of the forests and farming land of, not only their own countries, but the poorer countries. Valuable food is being fed to animals, which in terms of producing food for humans, is wasteful. If the grains and legumes that are fed to animals were fed directly to humans, ten times more food would be available. There would be no hunger.
Planet Earth is chronically ill and She will react in any way She can to survive.
Vegans already know the solution. Stop breeding billions of animals for food and return the farmlands either back to forests or to orchards and vegetable farms. We also urgently need to address the human population growth as well.
However, as much as we may wish for it or lobby for it, the gluttonous, selfish and greedy habits of humans in the rich countries are unlikely to change without the intervention of a major global crisis.
The impending oil crisis, which may be compounded by the Middle East Crisis, will inevitably lead to food shortages, due to transport difficulties. Food rations are likely to include mainly animal products such as dried milk powder, eggs and meat products.
