United Poultry Concerns' "Go Vegan!" Ads Hit Washington DC Metro Cars in April and May

UPC Metrocard Advert

Message Promotes Compassion for Chickens

United Poultry Concerns (UPC) has put up 220 Display Cards stating "Life Can Be Beautiful - Go Vegan!" in Metrorail Cars throughout the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. The cards, placed by CBS Outdoor to run from mid-April to the middle of May, show a man expressing kindness to a rooster at UPC's sanctuary in Virginia. The image can be viewed at www.upc-online.org/respect.

The Metrorail ads are part of United Poultry Concerns' International Respect for Chickens campaign. Launched in 2005, International Respect for Chickens Day, May 4th, is a project designed to celebrate the dignity, beauty and life of chickens and to protest against the bleakness of their lives in farming operations. UPC urges people to do a positive ACTION for chickens on or around May 4th. May is International Respect for Chickens Month.

Ideas include leafleting on a busy street corner, holding an office party or classroom celebration, writing a letter to the editor, doing a radio call-in, tabling at the local church, school or shopping mall, hosting a vegan open house, or simply talking to family, friends or strangers about the plight (and delight) of chickens and how people can help them.

United Poultry Concerns will hold a peaceful demonstration and leafleting at the National Mall in Washington, DC on Sunday, May 4th (permit pending) and across from the White House on Thursday, May 8th from Noon to 4PM both days. We invite people to join us.

"Visitors flock to Washington, DC in the spring to see the beautiful cherry blossoms and experience the National Capital Area," says UPC President Karen Davis. "Our Metrorail Cards and related activities are perfect for this time of year. As many as 800,000 or more people ride the Metro daily from around the world. We are reaching out to these people on behalf of chickens and a compassionate lifestyle. Life can be beautiful Go vegan."

On Monday, April 21, Karen will talk about International Respect for Chickens Day/Month on Go Vegan Texas starting around 10:15 AM Central time. Listeners can tune in live anywhere in the world at www.kpft.org, and mp3 archives can be downloaded for 60 days. Tune in!
