Vegan Bread

Bread making is difficult for many people, but the truth is, the smell of fresh baked bread is incredible and many people love eating them. This recipe is simple and tasty. You can make it with or without a bread maker. Its delicious either way.



1 tablespoon good quality active dry yeast

1 tablespoon water

½ teaspoon salt

450 ml. water, lukewarm

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

850 gm. all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

Dissolve the yeast in ½ cup water and add the sugar. Stir together and activate the yeast. Let it be for 10 minutes or so. Then add the rest of the water, vegetable oil and flour into the mixture and combine well till soft dough is formed. You need to really knead the dough for at least 10 minutes to make sure the gluten starts to form. It is essential for good bread-making. Put the dough in a bowl and allow it to rise for 1 hour.

Punch down the dough and allow the dough to rise again. It will take 10 more minutes for the dough to rise quickly. This time, put the dough in a loaf tin or bread pan, well-greased, and let it rise again. This time, do not punch it down. Rather, using a sharp knife, score across it 2-3 times, and put the dough in the oven. Bake at 180 degree centigrade for 40-50 minutes, or until done. The top of the bread will be perfectly golden brown while it would sound slightly hollow when tapped. You can immediately eat it or let it cool before tucking in.
