You don't need any special qualifications. You don't need stacks of money. These two concerns often put people off forming a local Vegan group. A group doesn't have to be a "society" or an "association" with a Constitution and Office-bearers. It can simply be a group of Vegans wanting to meet together on a regular basis. How do I do it?
Forming Your Own Local Vegan Group
You may want a group with more activities and more interaction, and more local control.
Here are some helpful hints:
Free advertising is available in many local papers. Look for columns such as "What's On" or "The Local Diary" or "Community News", where you can advertise or send in short articles for free.
Many towns have local Portals or websites on the Internet, which are designed to promote local businesses and events, where you can advertise for free and locals are encouraged to look for local activities and events.
There are usually plenty of free noticeboards to display your Cards or Posters.
Free advertising is often available on Community Radio stations.
You can use public parks, beaches and recreational areas for free no-fuss events.
Public buildings, such as Community Centers, Libraries and Council Halls often have free or cheap places to meet.
Meetings and meals at members' homes can be cheap and enjoyable.
Vegan restaurants can be used as regular venues for meetings and events.
You can ask for a "Gold-coin" donation at meetings to defray your costs. Money can be held in trust in a joint bank account by two or three members.
Articles about your activities & vegan events can be published on this site, for free!
Many Internet Service Providers (ISP) provide space for you to have a small free website.
If you don't have a website, we can offer you a WebPage on this website to display your contact details and events. Your group will be listed under your country in the World Vegan Directory.
Tribe, Yahoo, Facebook,
myspace and others provide free WebPages for non-profit groups. Vegan Meetup charges a monthly fee for organisers.
Free booklets and leaflets are available from Vegan Outreach, to get you started. (A donation is recommended). We recommend the attractive 16-page booklet, "Why Vegan", printed in colour, covering Animal Rights, Vegan Nutrition and Vegan Diet recipes and ideas!
Conclusion
It's important that we as Vegans find regular support and friendship from other like-minded people... Vegans! We can see how easy it is. So let's get started today!
