Natural Physical Exercise
The following exercises were acquired by most of us, as we developed as children, in the following order: stretching, rolling, crawling, creeping, walking, running, jumping, climbing, swimming. These are the only natural exercises.
Unnatural exercises have been invented to fit in with a modern lifestyle or indoor activities and are not recommended. They are: Jogging ("flat-foot running"), "Power-walking" (carrying weights in the hands), and exercise programs in the gymnasium (including Weight-training). Although not considered a Natural Exercise, Yoga may be used with some benefit when natural exercise is not available or inappropriate. It is wise to check with your Natural Hygiene Practitioner before practising Yoga.
It is preferable to make regular, natural exercise, outdoors, a part of our daily routine.
If any of these symptoms occur, it is advisable to cease the exercises immediately. If pain or discomfort persist, it would be wise to consult a Natural Hygiene Practitioner. These are symptoms that the body is unable to cope with this level of exercise, at least, at present. It is best to do only as much exercise as feels comfortable, and then gradually work up to your desired level.
A practical and efficient use of natural exercise is called "Roving", a combination of walking and running, as it suits the individual. You can walk all the way or even run all the way, so long as you enjoy it and you heed the warning signs. It is advisable for walking to be brisk and rhythmic (not forceful or stressful), and the breathing comfortable. Depending on the advice of your Natural Hygiene Practitioner, you can commence at 1/2 kilometre per day, and gradually work up to five kilometres per day. You may like to alternate or combine the Roving routine with swimming or bush-walking. The aim is to always try to ENJOY the exercise - make it a fun part of each day, something you look forward to! (Jogging is often flat-foot running, and is not recommended).
A secondary aim for natural exercise is to relax and reduce built-up stress. When trying to solve a problem or feeling anxious, casual relaxed walking, especially with a friend, is helpful, and can regain emotional, mental and spiritual poise.
If you are not able to walk or swim, you can ask your Natural Hygiene practitioner for a specific exercise routine.
