The Serena Coles International Vegan Festivals Committee (SCIC), chaired by Kirsten Jungsberg, has assessed several excellent Proposals to hold the 12th International Vegan Festival, in 2009.

May 13 2008 - Marly reports that the venue and dates have now been set for the Festival. The festival will be held at the PUC (a University - Pontificia Universidade Catolica), a "very nice venue in the heart of the city", Rio, from 22-25 of July 2009 - "but we will have a post program - tours, meetings and all nice things for those who want to".
December 30 2007 - At the 11th International Vegan Festival in India, Marly Winckler gave a fine presentation for her country's bid to hold the 12th IVF in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Kirsten Jungsberg has just announced that Brazil's bid is successful.
Kirsten said that Marly has had so much experience in arranging congresses and big events. She organized IVU-congress 36 in 2004, with a large number of people attending. See www.IVU.org/congress/2004. So we look forward to yet another successful International Vegan Festival in 2009!
Marly, who is the Organizer of the Festival, said the she needs to confirm the venue, dates and so on. "I'm going to Rio in February to do that", she said.

Marly Winckler is a sociologist and translator. She is vegetarian since 1982 and vegan since 1994. Author of Fundamentals of Vegetarianism and Vegetarianism: Elements to a Conversation. She is the translator of more than 50 books including Animal Liberation by Peter Singer and "Becoming Vegetarian" by Vesanto Melina and Brenda Davis.
